Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 5 June 2026
Hi — welcome to Scorch Studio.
We make custom laser-engraved gifts, slate pieces, wall art, branded items and other made-to-order things. We're a small Sydney workshop run by META PR PTY LTD, and we're proud of what comes off the bench.
These are our Terms and Conditions. They explain how orders, payments, proofs, delivery and returns work — so we both know what to expect.
By using our site or placing an order, you're agreeing to these. We've written them in plain English. Have a read.
1. Who we are
- Business name: Scorch Studio
- Legal entity: META PR PTY LTD
- ABN: 18 656 560 780
- Mailing address: P.O. Box 569, Chatswood NSW 2067, Australia
- Email: hello@scorchstudio.com.au
- Website: scorchstudio.com.au
- Based in: Sydney, NSW
2. What we make
Scorch Studio makes custom laser-engraved and personalised products, including:
- slate plaques and coasters
- vinyl-style wall art
- personalised gifts
- custom artwork pieces
- business and promotional items
- QR-code and NFC-enabled products
- other laser-engraved bits and pieces
We try to describe each product as accurately as we can — materials, dimensions, finish, look. But because a lot of what we make is handmade, custom, engraved, coated or made from natural materials, small variations are part of the deal. Different slate edges, slightly different engraving contrast, grain in the wood, surface markings — that's the character of real materials. It's a feature, not a fault.
3. Custom and personalised orders
Most of what we make is custom-made for the person ordering it.
When you place a custom order, take a careful look at everything you give us:
- names
- dates
- spelling
- wording
- artwork
- logos
- layout instructions
- colours
- sizing
- delivery details
- QR or NFC links
We'll always try to help if something needs changing, but once an order has been approved or we've started production, we may not be able to change it.
If an error came from your end (wrong spelling, wrong date) and the piece has already been made, we may not be able to remake it for free. We'll work it out fairly though.
4. Artwork, logos, files you send us
When you send us artwork, logos, photos, text, maps or anything to engrave, you're confirming that you've got the right to use it. Either you own it, or you've got permission from whoever does.
By sending us material, you're giving us permission to use it for the purpose of designing, prepping, engraving and producing your order.
We'll politely decline anything we think is unlawful, offensive, unsafe, misleading, discriminatory, or likely to step on someone else's rights. That's not us being precious — it just keeps us out of trouble and your gift looking good.
5. Design proofs
For most custom products, we send a digital proof (a preview of the design) before we hit go on production.
Please check your proof carefully. Things to look at:
- spelling
- layout
- names and dates
- image placement and scale
- QR codes and NFC links
- logo positioning
- product size
- any special instructions
Once you approve the proof, we start making it.
Heads-up: the digital preview is a guide. The final engraved piece will look slightly different in real life — material grain, lighting, surface texture, coating finish all change how the engraving reads. That's part of the magic of working with real materials.
6. Pricing and payment
Prices are in Australian dollars and include 10% GST where applicable. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay.
Payment is required before we start production, unless we've agreed to something different in writing. For the full breakdown of how payments, deposits, refunds and cancellations work, see our Payment Terms.
We update prices from time to time. The price that applies to your order is the one shown at checkout when you place it.
Occasionally we have to cancel or refund an order:
- if a product isn't actually available
- if there's an obvious pricing or listing error
- if the customisation just can't be made
- if payment doesn't come through
- if the order looks fraudulent or inappropriate
7. Production times
We work carefully on every order. Any production timeframe you see on the website or in an email is an estimate.
Custom work sometimes takes longer than expected — depending on artwork quality, how quickly proofs are approved, material availability, drying or curing time, and what else is on the bench.
We'll keep you in the loop if anything shifts.
8. Shipping and delivery
Shipping options, costs and rough delivery times are shown at checkout.
Delivery dates are estimates. Postal and courier delays happen — busy periods, public holidays, weather, things outside our control.
Double-check your delivery address before you place the order. If it's wrong, we may not be able to redirect or replace the package for free.
9. Local pickup
If you're picking up locally, we'll let you know when your order is ready.
Wait for the confirmation before swinging by — pickup times sometimes need to be arranged.
10. Returns, refunds and the Australian Consumer Law
We want every Scorch Studio piece to land well.
Because most of what we make is custom or personalised, change-of-mind returns generally aren't available once we've started or finished the piece. That's standard for made-to-order work.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply though. If a product doesn't meet the consumer guarantees, you might be entitled to a repair, replacement, refund, cancellation or compensation depending on the situation. The ACCC says businesses have to provide a solution when consumer guarantees aren't met — and that's the law.
Nothing in these Terms limits or removes your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
11. Change-of-mind
Because most of our pieces are personalised, engraved or made specifically for the order, we generally don't offer refunds or exchanges for change of mind.
That includes:
- you no longer need the product
- you changed your mind after ordering
- you picked the wrong size, wording, colour or design
- you approved a proof that had an error in it
- the product was made the way you approved it
- the piece shows natural material variation
None of this affects your rights if there's a real fault or issue covered by Australian Consumer Law.
12. Faulty, damaged or wrong products
If something's wrong with your order, get in touch as soon as you can:
hello@scorchstudio.com.au
When you write to us, include:
- your order number
- a clear description of what's wrong
- photos of the product
- photos of the packaging too, if it arrived damaged
We'll have a look and sort out a fair solution — repair, replacement or refund — in line with Australian Consumer Law.
13. Natural material variation
A lot of our products use natural materials: slate, wood, leather, stone, coated surfaces.
These vary from piece to piece. Things that can differ:
- colour
- grain
- texture
- surface markings
- mineral lines in slate
- edge profile
- weight and density
- finish
We see these variations as part of the character, not as faults. Each piece is genuinely one-of-a-kind. We pick stock that shows our products at their best, but no two pieces of natural slate or wood are identical.
If you've got a strong preference for particular grain or finish, tell us in writing before approving the proof. We'll try to accommodate where we can.
14. NFC chips and QR codes
Some Scorch Studio products include NFC chips or QR codes that link to digital content — websites, playlists, photo galleries, business profiles, restaurant menus, story pages.
You're responsible for the content you link to and for keeping it live, accurate and appropriate.
We don't control or monitor third-party content reached via NFC or QR codes once your order is delivered. If you later change, remove, or replace the linked content, the engraved code or embedded chip on the physical product can't be changed.
We'll decline NFC or QR code requests that link to anything unlawful, offensive, unsafe, misleading or discriminatory.
15. Intellectual property
The Scorch Studio name, brand mark, logo, designs, photographs, written content and product layouts are owned by Scorch Studio (META PR PTY LTD). They're protected by copyright and trade mark laws. Buying a Scorch Studio product doesn't transfer those rights to you.
Your artwork, logos, photos and text remain yours (or the original owner's).
By placing an order, you're giving us a limited licence to use what you sent us for the purpose of making your order, providing support, and showing the finished work in our portfolio, marketing and social media — subject to the rules in our Privacy Policy.
If you don't want your finished piece shown publicly anywhere, just tell us in writing before the order is completed. We'll keep it private.
16. Privacy
Personal info you give us is handled the way we describe in our Privacy Policy at scorchstudio.com.au/privacy.
17. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, and without affecting your rights under the Australian Consumer Law:
- We're not liable for indirect, consequential or special losses from the use, misuse, delay or unavailability of our products or website.
- For a faulty product, our liability is limited to (our choice): a replacement, an equivalent product, a repair, or a refund of the purchase price.
- We're not liable for delays or damage caused by postal services, couriers, weather, holidays, supplier delays, payment processor delays, or other things outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms removes or modifies any consumer right that can't be removed or modified under Australian Consumer Law.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or from using Scorch Studio products or services fall under the non-exclusive jurisdiction of NSW courts.
19. Changes to these Terms
We might update these from time to time as the business grows or rules change. The latest version always lives at scorchstudio.com.au/terms with the updated date at the top.
If you keep using the site or place an order after we update the Terms, you're agreeing to the updated version.
